What Obama really cares about is legacy, all Presidents do, but especially Obama. With Biden/Harris he gets that opportunity to finish what he started without being the front man. Three autobiographies and a fourth coming still won't convince people he was a great President.

Trump will go down as one of the greatest President's of all time. Obama is a question mark at best and even people in his own party see him for what he is and through the course of time they know what he is and what he stands for.
