Ironically it was under the Obama administration that everything became about race. The media headlined white criminals while the race of black criminals was buried deep in the article if mentioned at all.
Not ironic, it was an explicit strategy laid out in a 2011 strategy document to ditch the white working class and mobilize the growing hispanic and blacks via identity politics.

I think I somewhat understand. Switzerland has four white ethnic groups/languages -German, French, Italian, Romansch- who more or less exist peacefully.
Mexico City is somewhat of a hodgepodge. For instance a neighbor is a tax attorney, a Mexican national with blonde hair and blue eyes, a German surname, family in Mexico is extremely wealthy. There seems to be an elite that tends to be whiter and a huge underclass that tends to be browner. Not sure how much racial strife there is between classes due to race.
