Probably several points where things went wrong. Income tax, the new deal, going to war for no good reason becoming normal, turning education into communist indoctrination, getting God out of schools.

4 decades of progress later…
Because that was the beginning of the great slumber & sorting machine. Time to wake up. Cannot decide where to go until you know where you came from.

I'll take Metallica and Guns N Roses over the garbage being put out now, any day.
Most of the music in the 80s was bad, but there were exceptions: Talking Heads, Kate Bush, Police, Talking Heads, David Bowie.
Movies in the 80s were awesome, though.
