If it passes states will fight back

The question should be: WHAT WILL YOU DO IF IT DOES PASS.

It needs support from 10 Republicans to pass because of the filibuster requiring 60 votes, so I don't think it will pass this time (all house Republicans voted no on it, but Democrats have a majority in the house & tied in Senate but only because of Cunt Harris). 52 senators want to keep the filibuster (2 are independent Dems)

just 2 days ago there was an article where Manchin still said "we're keeping filibuster for Republican friends" despite cries from Dem senators.

Interestingly, some of the people saying it 100% chance have been regulars here for a year at least

It is definitely balls for independent Dem (Manchin) to come out and stand up for Republican "minority" & say "we're keeping the filibuster, not changing my mind". I don't think any of us was expecting this -- Democrat senators aren't happy with him.

Just found another Manchin quote (https://archive.vn/wip/ryDMv):

"My Republican friends are my friends they're not my enemies," he said. "And my Democrats are my colleagues, their not my enemies either that's my caucus. Together we've got to make this place work and it should be hard to invoke pain. It should be painful for us, don't make it painful for the other side."

Political theater or not, I wish we saw more of this in the government nowadays...

Yes, for sure. He explicitly says that he has Republican friends (prob means RINOs though). I guess this explains why he doesn't want it to be "lose lose" for Republicans overall.

None.

It won't get the 60 senator votes it needs. It got ZERO republican votes in the house. I don't see them getting any in the senate either.

100%

even with filibuster? how?

Democrats control the senate (with any tie-breaking vote to be swung by Harris). They are going to change the filibuster rule.

Do you not understand how the filibuster works?

You need 60 senators to cancel out the filibuster. You think 10 Republicans are going to vote to get rid of the only thing that gives them power?

SPOILER: They're not. If for nothing else, but to retain control of their own power.

There are two Democrats that are flat out against removing the filibuster, by the way. That's 52-48. Even if Kunt Harris was there, she couldn't do shit about it. This is saving throw that the filibuster provides.

You think 10 Republicans are going to vote to get rid of the only thing that gives them power?

You know how many RINOs are in the senate?

People here don't understand the reconciliation that spending bills fall under. HR 1 & police "reform" do not fall under them

Method #1 - Democrats eliminate the filibuster. They originally said no, but they're backtracking.

Method #2 - 10 Rinos are blackmailed/cucked into going along with it.

RINO's don't want to give up their power or influence. Voting to remove the filibuster is literally them cutting their own throats.

They won't vote to remove for the simple fact that they're be killing any power or influence they have.

Because they know Democrats won't be fair and they will get rid of Republicans at any chance. Including RINO's.

They hate ALL Republicans.

Complete miracle that filibuster is still intact. Like holy shit, we might have a fighting chance in 2022

Thing is, the main reason they're trying to pass HR 1 is because they're terrified of midterms (2022 & 2024) because they used all their might on Trump coup (yet Republicans hardly lost any seats), and 2022 will make them lose even more seats.

fskfsk 2 points ago +2 / -0

They want to be able to steal future elections without having to work for it like they did in 2020.

The reason they didn't do well in the House in 2020 is that the fraud was focused on 4 cities in swing states, while Biden and Democrats underperformed everywhere else. They did pull off the steal of 2 Senate seats in Georgia, which is why we're even having this debate.

I don't see why they even care. If you can do unlimited fraud with no consequences, why do you need HR1? They need a way to control the states that haven't been fully compromised yet.

I agree. Manchin is corrupt, but I don't think Democrats were expecting one of their own to feel strongly about retaining the filibuster when it explicitly helps Republicans instead of Democrats (he even said in an article that it for Republican minority. source: https://archive.vn/HdlV4)

Quote: "I'm not going to go there until my Republican friends have the ability to have their say also. ... I’m hoping they will get involved to the point where we have 10 of them that will work with 50 of us."

idk dude, it's really weird in my opinion. I'll take any miracle at this point.

Would be weird if 10 went along considering none voted for it in House

This is a good point. There were almost 60 who voted to impeach Trump.

1
Judiwont 1 point ago +1 / -0

What?

3
StartAgain 3 points ago +3 / -0

57 votes to impeach trump in second impeachment trial -- it didn't reach the required 67 or even the 60 (which is the minimum for filibuster)

Manchin is thinking of changing his stance on eliminating the filibuster.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/manchin-signals-willingness-to-reform-filibuster/ar-BB1emO97

If Supreme Court justices can be compromised, then it isn't that hard to compromise 10 Senators.

He said he was going to make it so that you had to physically be speaking on the Senate floor 24x7 to filibuster. There might not be enough Republicans willing to put in the effort to block the bill.
