just 2 days ago there was an article where Manchin still said "we're keeping filibuster for Republican friends" despite cries from Dem senators.

Interestingly, some of the people saying it 100% chance have been regulars here for a year at least

It is definitely balls for independent Dem (Manchin) to come out and stand up for Republican "minority" & say "we're keeping the filibuster, not changing my mind". I don't think any of us was expecting this -- Democrat senators aren't happy with him.

Just found another Manchin quote (https://archive.vn/wip/ryDMv):

"My Republican friends are my friends they're not my enemies," he said. "And my Democrats are my colleagues, their not my enemies either that's my caucus. Together we've got to make this place work and it should be hard to invoke pain. It should be painful for us, don't make it painful for the other side."

Political theater or not, I wish we saw more of this in the government nowadays...

Yes, for sure. He explicitly says that he has Republican friends (prob means RINOs though). I guess this explains why he doesn't want it to be "lose lose" for Republicans overall.
