My guess is because propoganda is very effective and the feeling of righteous indignation is an addictive feeling. And if people don't have legit reasons to feel righteously indignant, they'll conjure reasons just to get that dopamine fix.

That's just my guess, and I'm sure there's other factors.

Yeah, it's a shame. I wish everyone took Morgan Freeman's advice. you wanna stop racism? stop talking about it. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. (You not referring to you Mad_Hattie, but just everyone in culture)

The 80s and 90s were on their way to being more color blind and if we just kept on that path, things would have been much better. But then it became this hyper focus on race and "systematic oppresion". I mean these narratives were being taught in schools in the 80s and 90s, but weren't in mainstream culture quite as much. The 2000s - present are the fruit of that unfortunately.
