Don't know if it's necessarily because he cares for US citizens, but he's definitely in the right and this crisis hurts Mexico almost as bad as it hurts us.
Increased cartel activity, gang violence, drugs, and a lot of Central Americans who pass through Mexico and try to make it to the US end up staying in Mexico.
Mexico actually has some really nice places the further south of the US border you go, and isn't as bad as the Southern Triangle (guatamale et al)
Some of these people don't have the money to make it all the way to the US.
Plus if states like TX start enforcing the border on their own... Mexico will be stuck with these migrants / illegal aliens
