Lacking a lot of information here. Average age of those committing scuicide. Also how many suicides by other means, and average ages of those. Current environment (abusive home, civic lockdown, mental stability, prescriptions for depression). All kinds of other info missing for a logical discussion to take place. I am not even scratching the surface.
You're right. Also it's important to note that 'physical intervention' is a general remedy. That can mean taking someone's pills away or grabbing someone by the collar when they're about to jump off a bridge. I don't have data to compare the specifics.
I'm just really disappointed in the absolute failure of the entire discipline of psychology to properly address this. It's so damn unscientific. I'm not trying to be misleading.
I got that. I saw the devils advocate qualifier. And that is just it. The conversations need to be had, but the media willfully leaves out important stats intentionally so that on the surface it looks like a genuine point of concern and that any denial of that seems heartless, when in reality it is simply evil and intellectually dishonest to not include all the facts to find a viable solution. You don't outlaw shovels in an effort to prevent mass graves due to the communist slaughter of innocence.
taking away guns just is making the person find another way. what should be addressed is the cause of the suicidal thoughts not how it is done. people throw themselves from bridges so should we take away bridges? i think not
People who have no will to live are not typically insistant on killing themselves either. The number one deciding factor in whether or not a suicide attempt succeeds it the method used. Guns are the most effective method.
I'm not even suggesting using government policy to take away guns. Perhaps something more akin to AA or other kinds of intervention.
I more looking for suggestions on ways to stop suicide without taking any guns away.
theres a few i can think of. nothing easy tho obv. id love to see an overhaul of the education system so the state isnt raising kids. kids need to grow up in good homes where there needs both emotional and physical are met they need so many things. there isnt some one way to stop suicide consoling and an opportunity for them to talk to someone who understands is a good start but you have a society that pushes so heavily things that all leaad towards depression down to the food we eat. honetly short of a revival of the country idk how this issue gets dealt with
Suicide seems to be a uniquely right-wing problem, and yet the only people who pay much attention to it is the left with their 'mental health' rhetoric. We should see about doing something to fix that, given that it's a problem that mostly affects us, and that the left's suggestions of coddling people don't work.
its not unique to right wing people for instance over 40% of trannies commit suicide im not sure where you pulled it being a right wing issue. its likely you dont see it as much with lefties because they 1 hide the fact or other reasons such as them taking their internal hate and throwing it out at others but if you factor in drug overdoses im sure the left would suffer far more than us on the right
40% of trannies attempt suicide, and there aren't very many of them to begin with, despite what the media would have you believe. That's 60% of all suicides that are with guns btw. Leftists aren't killing themselves with guns because they don't own guns.
