If states aren't willing to even consider it, then they are admitting they have no power. If states have no power, what the hell power do individuals have?
It happened here only once in the civil war and that was VERY VERY different. Forget any moral reasons, but the first state to do so was South Carolina. They had already flirted with the idea early under President Jackson in a famous crisis until he was able to keep them in. And then they finally did so under Lincoln, and this was because their government, their leaders, their monied power, their state militia leaders, in other words, the vast majority of their elites, wanted too.
The same for every other state that seceded, all were because the elites wanted to. People like Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis were very wealthy, connected, and powerful people both commanding respect and power within the military and politics.
and even then, with all of that, it ended in absolute failure and destruction. The CSA lasted only 4 years and all of which were fighting a pitch death struggle that ended with the south drowming in its own blood in the worst war in American history.
Thats why Im calling this a LARP, its completely unrealistic and ignorant. Revolutions and stuff like this only ever happen when a section of the elites are sympathetic to the cause or what it in the first place and throw their power behind it, and even then they fail horribly sometimes.
Just within my lifetime: USSR breakup (pretty much bloodless), Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia breakup (completely bloodless), South Sudan, East Timor, etc.
Secession has happened before.

Secession happens all the time.
