I don't know and can't even guess what really happened except in the broadest terms. It seems inconceivable to me Trump did not anticipate the Leftists would try to wreck his rally -- especially since they were out blabbering for months to do exactly that !

Whatever the back story, Trump was checkmated on Jan 6th and we're on our own against the full weight of the United States government with no restraints left to stop it.
It makes more sense to me when I think of it while remembering all the UHF-TV mobster movies I watched as a kid in the 70s. The mafia goons were always concerned with the superficial appearance of legitimacy. "Hey, I run a LEGITIMATE BUSINESS!"

I don't know it doesn't make sense -- except the, admittedly vague, idea Trump was checkmated by the cabal on Jan 3 and they let him live, for practical reasons.
I'm not sure there was a plan for Trump to win. When he started talking on 1/6/21, I knew within 5 minutes that nothing was going to change. He promised more/new evidence a couple of days earlier in GA, and then started saying the same old stuff.
Jan 6 was bizarre in most respects. Trump gave a standard rally speech and the videos later in the day were just ghastly. "Hostage tape" is not an understatement. I think he was arrested or even killed and the tapes were edited, repurposed much earlier footage in the film archive.
A commenter on Vox Day's blog thinks even less of it, "Trump somehow boomered his way into the White House but had no idea what to do once he got there."
Maybe. But if there ever was a plan it died on Jan 6th.
