They would come to understand that the colonies tried everything to resolve the growing tensions between the them and the House of Lords. They eventually blamed all the issues on the King and his inability to reign in Parliament whom was slowly sapping power away from the crown at the time. Its a good read and it eventually goes into a massive inditement of the governmental structure of the British Crown at the time.
That includes setbacks and even within the ranks of the growing discontent, the King had his minions trying to cause issues so it'd be far easier to take down the would be rebels before they organized.
