I had a psych teacher in college who warned us that when we read through the DSM we would be tempted to diagnose ourselves and all the people we knew. But it's more political than scientific in a lot of ways if you look at what gets dropped after some years.

It is entirely political. And also, a very poor tool when making psychiatric diagnoses. It's the most idiotic thing in psychiatry in my opinion.
