People from Detroit and Chicago think nobody else has experienced poverty in America like they have.... but most people from Detroit and Chicago have never travelled outside of a major city...
You can drive 30mins outside any major city and the poverty level becomes apparently everywhere and nowhere all at once. Hitchhike across the continent and you'll go from places where a 20 year old truck is more common than a BMW. And the people pick you up and give you a lift.. you'll walk through an entire city where the average car is a Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Jeep, and all sorts of compact.. and nobody will stop to help you. You can die on the side of the highway and 100,000 people will pass you if you look alive enough to be there of your own volition..
Socioeconomic? Someone's never driven through poor Appalachia. By no means violence free, but nothing like chi-raq and the people are 8x poorer.
