The only place that people encounter another social setting like that of a public school is in jail and prison. Everything about school socialization is artificial, involuntary, and contrary to the prevailing norms of human societies throughout history.
It’s little wonder that separating children from their parents, family, neighbors, & real friends, dropping them into a locked-down environment consisting only of equal-age random peers and public sector union bureaucrats, and exposing them to corporate committee produced leftist indoctrination, ‘zero-tolerance’ brutish micromanagement, no-recourse bullying risk, and Byzantine interference with every aspect of ‘extra-curricular’ activity and parental interactions creates a culture of shallow and vapid ‘popularity contest’ tyranny, an educational wasteland, and an emotional pit of idiotic conformism, pointless rebellion, depression, hopelessness, thuggery, dependence, and physical abuse.
Unschoolers — kids who undertake NO formal instruction or curriculum of any kind, and simply go about learning things they are self-motivated to research, test within a single grade level of their public school age peers.
Home schoolers do significantly better.
There aren’t any solutions to fix public schooling, any more than there are solutions to fix communism. They were set up as a culture destruction system from the get-go (First Native American Indian tribes’ culture, and then non-factory-work American independent ‘hand-crafting’ culture, then others...)
The unschooler data shows that if we abolished it we’d be no worse off as far as student outcomes, and we’d save trillions of dollars we’re wasting on maintaining a pretend fantasy that this relic artificial system is some kind of pillar for maintaining our civilization, when it’s actually a key factor in our destruction.
Trillions that could be spend delivering free internet learning to every child, and a huge private marketplace for learned instruction. We could be living the idealized dream of every Greek scholar with a ‘library of Alexandria’ containing every book ever written at our fingertips and the best private tutors for any subject on demand, but instead we’re putting transgendered imbeciles into women’s locker rooms to play injuryball, locking children into prison home rooms for the best part of their lives, and censoring everything except monetized product unpackaging videos and video-game livestreams like the brawndo-swilling simpletons of Idiocracy — all because brainwashed boomers tear up when they think back to kissing their first girlfriend behind the gym stands.
Weren't British boarding schools originally made as spartan as possible to prepare the young men who attended them for their future period spent in the military?
Every public schooling system in almost every age in history has a ‘founder’ who unabashedly designs it and promotes it around some contemporaneous social engineering concept unrelated to actual student learning and education.
When the system is enacted or experiences growth, the earlier loudly-proclaimed justification is buried or sidelined, and a rhetorical shift occurs where everyone who participates pretends that it is designed to benefit and prosper each individual student, and that everything else is secondary necessity to achieve that concern.
But they all know this Is a hypocrisy, because once established, no amount of reason or evidence will make them brook the slightest challenge to the bureaucratic assemblage; meanwhile the curriculum, student experience, grading, extracurriculars and disciplinary measures can change at the slightest whim, or even for no reason whatsoever.
Dogs need to be socialised. Children need to learn how to interact with all sorts of people and how to behave in all sorts of social settings. They learn all of that from their parents, families, neighbours, and friends. Not from school.
I grew up Christian and conservative, and never have left those roots, but nevertheless the schooling system corrupted many parts of my mind and spirit. I am a late 20 something still rooting around in my head finding all sorts of leftist garbage that I hadn't realized I had "learned". Thanks commies...
