Exactly! If Derek Chauvin is acquitted and Floyd’s death is from ODing, why should Minneapolis pay them anything? Why approve this prior to the trial? Are they concerned Chauvin will be acquitted? Strange timing.
Also, side note. Anyone else think Floyd’s family is grateful Floyd died and they have all that money? Wonder if there was a magic genie if they would rather have George alive or all that money?
Wrongful death has to do with a civil suit, I believe, whereas Chauvin’s trial is a criminal case. Like how OJ was found guilty in a civil lawsuit (and had to pay up) vs him being acquitted in his criminal trial. Civil lawsuits are brought to seek money for damages. I’m not a lawyer, but I sorta remember these two types of lawsuits when I was in paralegal school lol. I agree with you, the timing of the city’s payout to George’s family right before the trial is very strange.
