Not to be the anti-joke police, but sadly people who are in arrears in child support are usually behind a lot more than $1400. The fact that the government needs to intervene in someone to take care of their kids is a symptom of a failed society, among the myriad of symptoms currently plaguing this country.
Child Support is one of the most evil things in society. The government does not "need to intervene" to make someone take care of their kids. The government purposefully wedges itself between the father and his family. I know many many many fathers who their wife divorced them, took the kids, and forced him into child support payments by the state. The fathers had no choice whatsoever. The fathers went from being responsible for their kids 24/7 to being nothing more than a monthly paycheck and a visitor 4 days a month if they are lucky.
Do not let them continue to spread this false narrative that "child support" is a good thing because it forces "dead beat dads" to pay their fair share. That is a complete lie based on propaganda. "Child support" is a 30 billion dollar a year racket where the state financially incentivises removing the father from the home. "Child support" is evil.
So much truth. I’m a dad with full custody. Haven’t heard from mom in years. I don’t have entire government agencies chasing her down for support. I bet she’s on the dole even.
Same. Only just got started tho. Papers will be final soon. Going on 3+ years now with about 90%. Got cancer last year, destroyed it, she stole our son and it set me back about 10k in lawyer fees across two states. Court ordered 100% reimbursement of legal fees and retroactive child support that so far adds up to 7k (so now she's nearing 20k total). I don't expect shit from stupid dead beat ass.
I see both sides. Growing up in Detroit, I seen my prototype for it: Fucking dead beats. Once I left that “venue”, I seen more of the evil leverage side of it. Divorce courts, “friend of the court”, social workers, child services. Systems bent to evil. I still have cognitive dissonances on these systems, because I can see why they exist, but I see how they are abused through corruption. They are no longer useful to society in their current forms. Just the tip of the iceberg on corrupt systems I am afraid.
And the vast majority of people who owe money would never have been able to pay the default child support judgements against them. The government basically enslaved poor men for the rest of their lives by setting an amount, making them pay a lawyer to get something reasonable (cant afford it), putting them in jail when they can't pay, which then keeps them from getting a job. Repeat for the rest of their life.
AND the debt increases while in jail. AND the debt can never be forgiven. AND there's a serious issue of false claims.
Whole thing is a joke to the point where there are women who deliberately avoid the child support system because the father will get smashed by it.

And a large portion of the time they make the payments an outrageous amount to penalize the father.
Example: My net pay is approx 2000/month.
I'm supposed to give my ex $900/month.
Idk htf I'm supposed to make shit work in a town where rent is avg 900-1100/month.
