On the world stage, the action develops slowly. Even swift military campaigns take a year or two to develop. 2020 was a barrage of attacks that were put in motion a decade before and triggered in 2016. That attack is still ongoing, like a mortar shower, but it’s not going to last forever, or destroy our entire base of operations.

Right now our people are mostly hunkered down, a few of us running towards their posts, some grabbing their gear, others still taking stock, a few frozen in shock, not yet grasping the reality of the situation, even a couple panicking or crying for their mommy.

But our commander is unfazed, already rolling into the next moves, observing the enemy advance he knew was coming, steady despite the apparent destruction of his TOC. It’s not by the office or the rank that he leads — it’s by determination, example, and the supporting faith and unity of the troops.

The hardest parts and the worst terrors are still in front of us, but our indecision and illusions are behind us, and soon we will get to spring into action and into the thick of the fight!
