I've been watching a quiet "virtual secession" happening. We're not getting the real thing, but states like Florida, Oklahoma, SD and a few others are starting to exert their 10th Amendment muscles and passing legislation (or writing bills) to protect their citizens from the garbage coming from D.C. We even have counties doing it. I've been keeping a list, probably reported by the same sites you mentioned.

I don't know the numbers of black people who are anti-racist idiots and based, but there's enough good people that it's no longer reasonable to make some of the broad generalizations. Defending against a long blunt weapon, whether it's a broomstick or anything else:
one hand grabbing it close to you. This gives you a tremendous leverage advantage! Their hands are closer to them, so they have to exert tremendously more force to overpower you. Your other hand needs to be on the weapon too, reasonably far away from your first hand. You want to spin it around and out of their grip. You want to fight against some weakness in their grip, not against it being lodged securely between their elbow and side, for example.
As a short guy with broad shoulders who played hockey, I know exactly how I'd step into the attacker, spin them off balance, break the broomstick over my knee, and drive the pointed broken edges into the tile floor right next to both sides of their head while screaming right in their face, demanding them to tell me when they were going to try that again. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure nothing about this would leave me open to successful charges. No real attack, just defense. And eliminating the threat.
The details of breaking their grip are worth practicing! Slowly, gently, and your own broom works well. I'm going to guess the attacker's arm never got more than a foot away from her own body? Try to duplicate it. Planning this through with a friend, thinking, looking for how you can succeed, will do AMAZING things for keeping your mind clear under pressure and carrying yourself such that you do NOT look like a victim!
A useful martial arts technique is to exploit your attacker's reflexes. However you exert force, they will automatically try to do the opposite. Get them going in a direction that helps you, then because you have planned this you can reverse your force quicker than they can. You both wind up forcing the weapon out of their grip together :)
Speed and intelligence beats brute force, every time. To a degree. Against a surprisingly powerful old woman, it's worth not risking broken ribs. Against a large and fit man? Probably not worth trying. Against multiple assailants? TV is not real.
Against a weapon, you don't really have to "win." If you can just contest control of it, you greatly reduce your own chance of injury. In a public place, that contest will probably end before long. And you probably have no opportunity to cause injury, so you should be fine, legally. Trying to press charges is probably a bad idea if you defended yourself successfully and didn't get hit.
You did get hit, and have (had?) physical evidence to prove it, in the form of a bruise. That's enough for Police to take the cause to a prosecutor. I don't know if you even thought about that, but after your bruise is gone so is the opportunity.

I don't know the numbers of black people who are anti-racist idiots and based, but there's enough good people that it's no longer reasonable to make some of the broad generalizations. Because according to the data, historical and otherwise, they are the most effective systems for achieving our fundamental desires. Defending against a long blunt weapon, whether it's a broomstick or anything else:
one hand grabbing it close to you. This gives you a tremendous leverage advantage! Their hands are closer to them, so they have to exert tremendously more force to overpower you. Your other hand needs to be on the weapon too, reasonably far away from your first hand. You want to spin it around and out of their grip. You want to fight against some weakness in their grip, not against it being lodged securely between their elbow and side, for example.
As a short guy with broad shoulders who played hockey, I know exactly how I'd step into the attacker, spin them off balance, break the broomstick over my knee, and drive the pointed broken edges into the tile floor right next to both sides of their head while screaming right in their face, demanding them to tell me when they were going to try that again. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure nothing about this would leave me open to successful charges. No real attack, just defense. And eliminating the threat.
The details of breaking their grip are worth practicing! Slowly, gently, and your own broom works well. I'm going to guess the attacker's arm never got more than a foot away from her own body? Try to duplicate it. Planning this through with a friend, thinking, looking for how you can succeed, will do AMAZING things for keeping your mind clear under pressure and carrying yourself such that you do NOT look like a victim!
A useful martial arts technique is to exploit your attacker's reflexes. However you exert force, they will automatically try to do the opposite. Get them going in a direction that helps you, then because you have planned this you can reverse your force quicker than they can. You both wind up forcing the weapon out of their grip together :)
Speed and intelligence beats brute force, every time. To a degree. Against a surprisingly powerful old woman, it's worth not risking broken ribs. Against a large and fit man? Probably not worth trying. Against multiple assailants? TV is not real.
Against a weapon, you don't really have to "win." If you can just contest control of it, you greatly reduce your own chance of injury. In a public place, that contest will probably end before long. And you probably have no opportunity to cause injury, so you should be fine, legally. Trying to press charges is probably a bad idea if you defended yourself successfully and didn't get hit.
You did get hit, and have (had?) physical evidence to prove it, in the form of a bruise. That's enough for Police to take the cause to a prosecutor. I don't know if you even thought about that, but after your bruise is gone so is the opportunity.
