You guys have to listen to the "We the People" podcast by Tom Zawastowski, it's really good and he explains how to organize and fight. A big reason Ohio is now solid red is him and his organization, definitely someone to look up to and check out especially if you're interested in the legal side of things.
About the organizing and the fighting, it isn't an overall thing it's more a single issue thing. One thing I have heard him say is "We focus on issues we can fight AND win" so that has helped make his organization more effective in that they pick an issue and then attack it full-force.
