Man... gotta love that ethnic share of workforce chart... they've gone from whites more or less being near their share of the US population overall, to slashing that in half to bump everyone else up. Except the asians, who remain ridiculously overrepresented. Big Tech loves them Sum Cheep Wang.
It isn't money anymore. These countries have installed enough people in key positions throughout management and HR, so now they can hand out all the good jobs and artificially inflated salaries to their countrymen.
Also, it's not just China, India is a serious problem too.
I don't think we have a problem with thai or Mongolians taking over our corporations and corrupting our government like the Chinese or Indians are. Being imprecise and not knowing your enemy is how you lose and why we've slid this far. My point was we're so focused on China, we've missed what the upper caste big city Indians are doing to us.
You're not wrong, but I really doubt anyone thinks of Thai or Mongolians when they hear "tech worker". In SoCal its already well known that this mostly means Indians. They're everywhere here.

Everyone I work with is Indian.
My immediate team isn't, but most of the teams around me are like 80% FOB Chinese or Indian nationals.
Guess which ethnic category the Indians are in.
Asians.
