I’m in Australia, and in March 2020 the govt declared a “state of emergency” for the first time in our history. This gives them pretty much unlimited power to do anything they want - for example, they imposed curfews, closed state borders, made protests illegal, etc. All entirely unprecedented in our history. The legislation allowing a state of emergency had built into it that the maximum period was six months, because obviously govt having unlimited power shouldn’t go on forever.
After six months, they govt said we need another 15 months of “emergency” powers. The opposition put up a show of resistance and some members of the public did raise concerns that was excessive, so they only got an extra six months.
After the next six months, they just voted to extend it another nine months anyway and nobody really even reported it or objected to it.
So our government’s “emergency” powers, under which they can do anything they want, will last for at least 21 months but with no end in sight. The worst part is I told the normies back in March that once the govt takes away your rights you never get them back, and they treated me like I was a lunatic. I was right of course, but nobody cares.
