ol' grog does not understand the concept of having a skill set. cleaning the bathroom, stocking shelves and emptying the trash does not qualify as a skill set; it qualifies as "chores." until he's developed a skill set or has skin in the game, he gets a low wage.
Exactly. The "skills" needed to work in a convenience store could easily be mastered by the average middle schooler.
Running a cash register? That's simple with modern cash registers and scanners. Check.
Handling cash and making change? The cash register does the math for you! Check.
Taking out the trash? Check.
Cleaning bathrooms, sweeping and mopping floors? Check.
Stocking shelves? That's functionally the same as putting groceries away in the kitchen. There's just more stuff and more shelves in a convenience store. Check.
Dealing with rude people? They do that all day in school! Check.
Of course we don't want to stick kids in jobs where they would have to work in the wee hours of the morning and might have to dodge bullets.
So we use adults, and they get paid crap because they only need the skills and maturity of a middle schooler to do the job.
Most other minimum wage jobs are just as simple, which is why they also pay crap.
Honestly we should outsource those menial jobs to other countries anyway. What’s the point of even having menial labor here? I own a small IT company and I’d rather have a guy in Asia answer the phones for $2/hour instead of the $8/hour I pay to my employees currently. Those skills are easy to pick up and foreigners are more desperate and therefore more hardworking.
Short term, what do we do with all of the people whose lack of education or job skills mean they only qualify for low-end jobs? Having simple, entry-level jobs out there where at least some of them can learn some skills and have a chance to advance up the career ladder is vital.
If there's no bottom rung on the career ladder because we've outsourced everything to Asia and imported illegals for the jobs that can't be outsourced, then we have millions of Americans with no hope and no prospects. Best case, they end up on welfare. But more likely, they end up in prison or dead because crime is the only chance they see to get out of poverty.
I understand that if your competitors are outsourcing their jobs for $2 an hour, you can't pay $8 an hour and be able to compete. So the solution for outsourcing and importing illegals has to be to take away those options for all businesses, which is what Trump was working on.
Long term, we have to do something about the subcultures in our country that denigrate study and hard work. Because right now we are breeding and raising millions more people who have no education or job skills. We have to create incentives to work and take away incentives to stay on public assistance.
That's really hard, especially since the Democrats use dependent folks as their voter base. Also, the millions of people who already get a free (or heavily subsidized) ride from the government can vote. Because this system has been allowed to metastasize for decades, the dependent class is already darn near half of the voters.
The alternative is to keep going as we have been: with an ever-increasing share of the country dependent on government until the system completely breaks. Technology and automation will stave off the breakdown of society for a while (by allowing ever fewer productive people to keep supporting ever more dependents). Meanwhile, our country will print more increasingly worthless money and go deeper and deeper into debt. But that system is not sustainable forever.
But reality is child universal basic income was passed with the stimulus bill. All parents who make $75K and under or $150K for married filing jointly get $3,000-$3,600 per child per year extra in IRS checks.
The saddest shit is the GOP offers no good alternatives when it comes to money related issues to these types of people. Their plans help out people who make more than $100K per year and mandate higher taxes for lower brackets. Why the fuck should many lower class voters vote GOP when the GOP offer nothing?
why should there be ANY "universal basic income" plan for children? by either party? have the children you can afford and don't expect the taxpayers who can pay for their children or chose not to have children, pay for your choices. birth control is effective and cheap, ffs. use it!
Birth control is fucking stupid. I’m glad Trump let businesses remove it from insurance. It’s a waste of money, just don’t have sex, why should I have to pay for it as the boss?
The GOP plan to help them is to create a strong economy with a minimum amount of illegal immigration. You know, actually HELPING them instead of just a handout.
Of course I'm responding to Anaconda so what do I expect.
Haha no. Imagine being this stupid ^^^

That's good for you, but bad for the country.

Menial jobs like that are what high school and college kids should be doing to supplement their income.
Yawn..nice bumper sticker slogan.
