Why should people who did a search at some point in life for "highest paying jobs," and then set out to get qualified have to hand over money to people who never bothered? Ugh
Maybe the JOB you're doing is not worth $15/hour. You can definitely be worth more than $15/hour if you put in the effort to develop skills that are unique or that are in high demand.
Find something that not a lot of people can do and do it. You don't even need to go to college or trade school. The internet makes it really easy to learn new skills.
If we lived in a completely isolated country, that would be true. Since we don't, it's easy to undercut wages such that you're paid less than what the market would otherwise pay you. If you want to trade freely with China, you're going to have to make Chinese wages.
The market actually self corrects in terms of wages. Because if a business doesn't, their employee's will quit and get another job that pays better. That business will have to bring in a replacement, but not many will apply because the pay will be low and the ones that do won't care and will have no loyalty because they're paid like shit. A business that can't retain their employee's is a business that doesn't stay open. Another business will start up in direct competition and snipe people because they pay fairly and that old business will shutter it's doors. Never to open again.
It behooves businesses to pay their people fair wages. It ensures talent and loyalty.
That's only when there is a shortage of workers. When there is a surplus, the exact opposite happens, wages drop. How do you create a surplus of workers? Trade freely globally (you are directly competing with Chinese workers if there are no tariffs) and increase immigration (both legal and illegal).
But reality is universal basic income was passed with the stimulus bill. All parents who make $75K and under or $150K for married filing jointly get $3,000-$3,600 per child per year extra in IRS checks.
The saddest shit is the GOP offers no good alternatives when it comes to money related issues to these types of people. Their plans help out people who make more than $100K per year and mandate higher taxes for lower brackets. Why the fuck should many lower class voters vote GOP when the GOP offer nothing?
If no one will pay you $15 per hour without the government intervening, then maybe you're not actually worth $15 per hour.

This isn't accurate.
