I was raised in a dysfunctional family with a part-time dad and a full-time mom. I am one of the strongest and most solid individuals in either side of my family and my friends. Now, most of the rest of my family was also in dysfunctional situations, but many of my friends had regular childhoods without a bunch of crazy shit.

Personal responsibility and choice is a large part of it. The leftists in the cities blaming daddy issues for robbing the local liquor store are just putting off responsibility for their own actions. No matter how fucked up your childhood and upbringing, you still have a choice (and boy, was my childhood fucked beyond belief).
