It's because they know, whether consciously or unconsciously, that the democrats' grip on power is very fragile, and if they start making fun of Potato then his legitimacy really comes into question, then the entire house of cards might fall apart.

I used to watch them all. Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, SNL, Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert, etc. I voted for Obama in 2008, fully expecting the comedy shows to rag on him like they did on Bush. To my great surprise, I got two years of all the comedy shows ragging on Republicans non-stop. The Democrats had won the White House, the Senate, and the House but their comedic media lackeys spent two years joking on Sarah Palin and her kids. It made me realize how slanted the media was. Not one single joke did any of them do on Obama. Not once. And they were simply as cruel as you could get to Palin and anybody on the right (but especially Palin). I realized that the left is full of cruel, mean, and hateful people. Here it was they won everything but spent the whole time gloating and kicking their opponent when they were down. I was disgusted. I stopped watching all of that stuff in 2010 cold turkey. I just got sick of it. Now, whenever I see a clip of one of those idiots, I can feel the hatred and cruelty ooze out of the screen. They are evil people.
Oh, they could write jokes all day long about Biden. But they won't because he is their guy.
I should have caught on when you did. It took me until 2015/2016 seeing all media only criticise one side of the political spectrum, including some I had considered outside of bipartisan politics (looking at you reason.com), to realise something was fishy. I went digging around online to find Trump supporters to hear the pro-Trump perspective, found thedonald and here I am 6 years later still on the Trump train.

(Anything that presented danger was said to be "wrestled to the ground," as SNL manufactured a repetitive "comic" catch-phrase from a newspaper quote covering one of the attacks on Ford.)
These hack "comedians" and talk-show hosts can make a smart-ass tasteless joke about anyone or anything, especially the misfortune of others: it is their mission in life. The only reason (apart from Orange Man Bad) they are handling Biden with kid-scented-gloves is because they do not want to anger their financiers and benefactors.
This is not funny. It's devastating, my heart breaks for the death of America and the low life scum that would do this to us make me wish for God's extreme wrath to be poured out without measure upon them
