Growing up in the 90s, racism just wasn't something seen or engaged in. The kids at school didn't give one shit about kids who were black. There was no "black groups", everyone fell into friend groups based on their character. Also, it's not always the demographics but the cultural norms of a particular geographic. My father went to school in inner-city Boston 1950s (nearly 100% black). Never had a single problem and it wasn't until the civil rights era that he saw attitudes shift. I'm sure that experience wouldn't have been the same in the southern states of the same time period.
I guess the main thing I was trying to say was as a culture we weren't trying to make literally everything about race which seems to be happening like crazy now. It’s been dumbfounding to watch it happen. If you are old enough go back and watch a 90s movie and remember what it was like when you were that age. You’ll notice black characters and back then you never even thought about it. And most of the times the characters felt natural together as in they could’ve been friends in life. Also, it's not always the demographics but the cultural norms of a particular geographic. My father went to school in inner-city Boston 1950s (nearly 100% black). Never had a single problem and it wasn't until the civil rights era that he saw attitudes shift. I'm sure that experience wouldn't have been the same in the southern states of the same time period.
I guess the main thing I was trying to say was as a culture we weren't trying to make literally everything about race which seems to be happening like crazy now. White kids are popped out and fed a constant shame and blame recipe at every turn and what's even worse is that same system is also teaching black kids that white kids are racist just by virtue of being white. So now black parents who actually try and teach their kids the right way are screwed over.
