People talk about America being a "melting pot". Well how does a melting pot work?

You take heat, which is the mechanism of assimilation, and add small quantities of the ingredients that you want to the pot, where they are melted and combined. Some ingredients melt easier than others. A similar culture will melt relatively easily. A very different culture will take more time or require more heat.

So what happens when you turn the heat (assimilation) way down and add large quantities of hard to melt ingredients to the pot? The melting pot no longer functions. Those ingredients don't melt, and continuing to add more to the mix just exacerbates the problem. This is where we have been in this country for a long time now, with the heat turned ever lower, barely on at all, and more hard to melt ingredients being chucked in by our government.
