I grew up immersed in great hymns of the Faith, I'll try to share some of that with you. We had an amazingly talented choir, and hundreds of people in the congregation singing 4 part harmony following us. Real pipe organ. On special days we'd add a brass choir of 2 trumpets and 2 trombones, I was always part of that.

Cathedral, with glorious acoustics. Easter's coming up so it'll be easy to find great hymns for this season. I'll try to add one a day. I don't have one favorite, there are too many to pick from:

Words included! Real theology here. The only thing this one doesn't do is alternate verses between male only and female only, which is a nice effect contrasted by the refrain sung by everybody.

BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE HYMNS. THEY SEEM STICK WITH ME BETTER THAN BIBLE VERSES DO.

Hymns stick with me better as well. My theory is the music sets it in my brain better than simply hearing a verse. I've always thought of this one for Good Friday: Rather like the simplicity of how this one is done: (Second Chapter of Acts - Oh Sacred Head, Now Wounded) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xjpIfm7hdc

And one of my all time favorites, though not technically a Resurrection Day Song, Wonderful the Matchless Grace of Jesus -Acapella- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhSOnw8a_AI

Hymns are a great way of meditating upon the Truths of God's Holy Word, inviting it to change us from the inside out. We can have a favorite, many favorites, or love them all equally; God grants us freedom with this but anything that helps us love Him is good!

Some Easter hymns are so dense with theology there's no way to keep up with the meaning at the pace of the music, even if it's slow and stately. We'll wind up reeling; "drunk in the Spirit." The hymn I'll add today isn't like that at all, it affirms ALL the central points of the Faith but instead of diving into any one of them deeply, it just celebrates the whole Gospel. In almost raucus fashion:

These lyrics were first written in 1708. All 4 verses are included.
