Fuck, I had a coffee maker that looked like a chemistry set, but it made the best coffee I ever had. But, they break so easy. Literally broke 2 of them before I gave up and got a Black and Decker.
I think a decent bolt action 22 and like 300 rounds of ammo are commonly overlooked. You can eat a lot of small critters that a 22 is perfect for.

22 is definitely underlooked. Not only can you get the small critters but its the proper round. You don't want to blow bunny in half.

Depends. Do you want a folder, fixed blade, auto? Do you want an EDC knife? Self-defense? Both? What are you going to do with it? Random everyday stuff? Or actual work cutting wood, rope, etc? Price range? It's a bit to think about because there's a gazillion knives to choose from.
Personally, my top EDCs are Microtech Troodon, Benchmade Mini-Reflex and ProTech TR-5, but many people like Spyderco, CRK, ZT... like I said, there's a gazillion choices.
Anything designed by Ken Onion. The Leek is one my small EDCs.
