I remember this, she was so over the top that I can understand why they went with insane. Yet to let her out after only five years is a surprise, my guess was she would be away for life.

This is Russia, let us wait and see how long she lives now that she is out.

I don’t understand this need for delineation between criminal or criminally insane. Who the fuck cares about their deeper issues when the action and intent was murdering a child? Who the fuck cares about HOW someone got to the point of doing something horrifically damaging to society?

This is society admitting that it doesn’t even believe in itself. A criminal release is society accepting punishment for its crimes against people in the form of crimes against people.

The distinction is really as to how they are incarcerated. Criminally insane in a general population would be a blood bath.

I just don't understand why they let her out...

Hmm, I don't see how it is possible to have such a clinical take involving the murder of a young child. In fact it makes me very curious how and why this case was handled as it was. I'll be completely upfront. I'm opposed to the death penalty for reasons that I've long established, but I do have a general exception of crimes of mass destruction be them physical or economic.

In this case that criteria that I normally use is not met. However the violent and willful murder of a child, even by someone who is claimed to be insane is not acceptable. When you are so insane or hateful as to murder a child, I'm sorry I'm done with you and not taking any chances on your future. I'm also not spending money to keep you alive. I would have definitely executed that woman upon all physical evidence confirmed.

Also there is the broader political problem here. And this might be trickier than I imagine. What exactly is the message to people considering terrorism for whatever reasons? Considering this is Russia, it makes for some interesting questions.

It is interesting that Russian leadership thinks it can successfully get the cultures to work together when all historical evidence going back thousands of years consistently says otherwise. As brutal and over bearing as the Chinese government is, they are the only ones who seem to abide by historically established fact patterns.
