Mexico is a wealthy nation by international standards. I think they have more billionaires per capita than the US or something.
Alot of these Honduran's and Guatamalan's could settle in mexico and have a safe life but it's not as attractive as the US and the Mexicans don't want them.
Realistically immigration doesn't serve anyone well in the 21st century. Once upon a time when countries like Australia and America had large swaths of undeveloped land, large scale immigration made sense. We needed people to grow and develop our countries. Now we've hit peak development immigration only serves to create competition in labor markets decreasing wages and conditions for citizens.
What is really needed is first worlders to immigrate to 3rd world nations and help them develope and grow by bringing skills, technologies and industries to undeveloped nations. Side by side to that local populations need to stay local and help develope their own nations.
