My brother is conservative, religious, provided a hell of a good life for his family, had two daughters that went to college. The first one is now a man. The second one has dropped out, is recovering from the experience and is getting her life back to God. They were perfectly normal girls before they went off to college.
The oldest daughter is lost. She'll never come back. The youngest is still a sweetheart. She said there was a lot of pressure to do drugs. She described it as if viewed through the prism of Christianity much of it is satanism. The whole trans movement is rife through the college experience.

I work in a mental health facility for sex offenders and even though our patients are labelled with gender dysphoria, they encourage them and give them hormones, but imagine if I played into anyone else's schizophrenia or psychosis. Fuckin clown world.

I went to public school is the 80’s and got a decent education. Only a few teachers who were radical back then.
I read a lot when I was a kid and went through a phase in 4th grade where I read biographies. Pretty interesting stuff. Ended up testing at a college level reading when I was 12 :)
The 80s were a good era for public education. Teachers weren't radical, though there were probably exceptions. Science and math were just that. We read the classics. Skin color was considered a physical trait, like having blond hair, being tall, etc. There was no trans and autism was exceedingly rare. Uni through the 90s was good too. Being pro free speech and anti-war were the norm. "Progressives" have ruined education/ society.
(Not so) fun fact about autism, a big reason it’s so prevalent now is because the categorization was changed 5-10 yrs ago to eliminate asbergers and lump it together with autism. It was a huge problem when I taught because it messed up the accuracy of IEPs since we couldn’t prepare accordingly for autistic students because there was no indication of severity.
My boys go to a small Christian school. Classical education. Girls are free to be girls and boys to be boys. I do worry about the available mates once they come of age. Take the steadpill to survive the coming mess. It’s the only way.

Wow, This is so true. I now must endure a lifetime impacted by shit my young daughter was shown by one of her friends from school. Private, religious school. This kid's family was new to the school, and were big donors, so nothing was done to address things by the school.
Examples of experiences with our kids public school was a child sharing pornography with the other kids st school in 5th grade, one child threatening a line of children with a knife in the second grade, and an older elementary student, so he was a fourth or fifth grader, that was going to beat the ass of three adult men that were razzing him. Kids had to wait until lunch was almost over to receive an alternative 1/2 lunch because someone stole their lunch card that they had to leave in public on a sorting block, Kids couldn't keep any of their lunch food if they bought lunch, so if they didn't eat that apple, they'd have to give it away or throw it away. (reason given was they might take it home to someone in their family, there was an actual sign) They got in trouble for talking at lunch. It was ridiculous.
All of the field trips were dropped because the areas for attendance are so tightly controlled that few qualify for the bus and buses are only for drop off and pick up, not field trips, that requires extra money for gas, the driver, etc.
The day was long, the play was short, so not much work, not much play, and we are churning out people that can't read or do basic math, and the middle school looks like a prison yard for miniature alternative activists so we home schooled.

The point the original person who responded to you was that going to college and majoring in something that ended up costing the graduate 100's of thousands in debt, only to land a job where they can barely make a dent, is pointless.

Someone who racked up 150k in school debt is going to have a very difficult time paying back that loan with only a 52k a year salary. Sure they may get some added benefits, but it will still not be enough. Assuming they work for you for most of their natural life, sure, it is possible.
But take that into consideration when that same person could have studied and earned a certification in IT and get hired making around the same or double depending on the type of job, with ZERO debt.
College is good for careers that need certain skills and training as the previous person mentioned, such as being a doctor or a lawyer, etc. But for your everyday person, a college degree is just as good as what a highschool diploma was decades ago.
English is necessary but not sufficient. Studying literature could help you learn to write better, which is a useful skill. The real problem with English majors is that oftentimes it's a dumping ground for students who are either stupid or refuse to work hard. That and the fact that that number of jobs for people who write well is far less than the number of people who can write well.
Even worse: Psych Majors. I met one once who never heard of either Piaget OR Jung. Like not at all, not even "I heard of them but never got into them". That's like being a Metalhead who never heard of Dio or Overkill.
Comm majors are also pretty bad.
The best degree to hire for in the Liberal Arts is Classics. It's tough to be a moron after reading Aristotle and Aquinas. But that also is being slowly invaded by people who are demanding Classics be inundated with Non-Western works not 50 years old.
The value of an English degree depends on where you got it and when. Used to be fine, provided you’re going into something that involves speaking and writing. That and comparative lit now are mostly reading old books and analyzing how everyone’s racist though.
Although now they’re mostly SJW degrees depending on where you go, to say they never were is incorrect. The core western curriculum used to be rhetoric, logic, and grammar, which English was an attempt to lump all in together. And for a time it probably was, and in some places still is. Part of the downfall was from public school teachers in many areas having no idea what they were doing and turning it into story time.

I probably do, admittedly. C's get degrees, after all, and I've done enough lawyerly things on my own as a small business owner that demonstrates it's not as difficult a profession to get into as you'd expect.
It gets back to the old tried and true 80x20 rule. Its not just one profession. I have found it true in application across the board. "C's nor A's " is not an accurate measurement of capable application. It doesnt measure common sense. I have known brilliant people who simply could not (or would not) conform to mid or higher level education protocol from start to finish line of degree.
I'm not sure what "pre-law" would involve. You certainly don't need to major in it. The primary thing you need to do to get into law school is get good grades, so it's best to major in something easy or at least something you're good at. At least that was the case when I was in school.
College used to give people access to information that they wouldn't realistically have access to without attending college. Since the advent of the internet, that just isn't true any more.
Only if you view a college education as merely vocational advancement. If you view higher education as a development of the soul, then it is certainly a worthy investment, so long as the education is conducted at a school that teaches the classics and values God.

Back in the day I would listen to a guy named Tom Leykis and he would say that women go to college to get an MRS degree.....in other words, they go to college to meet guys and get married to them.
Back when it didn't cost a gazillion dollars, that was a good idea. Working over the summer could pay for a good chunk, and many girls had families (well, their dad obviously) who would pay the remainder. So they had four years to study interesting things while surrounded by eligible young men, and didn't graduate saddled with debt. They could also get a decent job to save up until they had kids with the nice young man they met at college.

I went to Columbia in Chicago at a time right before woke-ness started spreading to mainstream levels like a terminal cancer. Naive little me assumed the people there would be like the “normal people” I was used to being around but they were like this whole new human breed that I was not prepared for. I remember bringing a swiss army knife to Middle School every day - in New York STATE, for crying out loud, in the 80s. We actually whittled with knives after school and the principal would sometimes walk by and see what we made. About age 12. By the time I was 20, my old school had "Zero Tolerance" for knives. And yes, schools can teach you all of that, because most community colleges teach HVAC/electrician/plumbing. They have two year degrees, AA degrees, and they're worth it. They can stop after two years, or get an AA in two different worlds that overlap. That's what community colleges are for - they used to be called trade schools.
I know someone married to a guy who, when he graduated high school, decided he wanted to get into trucking. So he got a two year ticket for diesel mechanics, while going to trucking school, before getting his first real job with one of the big moving companies. He's owned - and maintained - his own trucks for over two decades now.
Eh depends on how smart the kid is. If he's smart enough to do a real STEM degree, you'd make more going to college. If he's not, then trades are the way to go.

You don't get a whole lot of pay staring out, you're gonna drop money on tools, boots, clothes, unless he gets into a union shop. But also remind him, that trades are always in demand and once he gets his ticket he can go anywhere, and applying complementary skills to the trade will make him more valuable.
For example, a friend of mine has his gas and diesel mechanic tickets. But while he was in his apprenticeship, he heavily went into electronics, circuit design, and so-on. This was all ~20 years ago, but today he runs a shop which doesn't do any work but electronics work, it's all computerized issues for the vehicle interiors. Everything from the console control system and HUDs, to various body computer problems. His shop rents out employees to all of the major dealerships on a rotating basis usually 1-2 days per-week, and the people under him never touch an engine or transmission, or have to pull apart brakes.

Me...I went to college for photography and videography, and it was a waste of money. I enjoyed the experience, and I went to a comparatively conservative school, but I wouldn't do it again if I could go back in time. There's only about 6 colleges EVER worth sending your kids to: Hillsdale, Liberty Baptist, Bob Jones University, Grove City College, Harding University and Colorado Christian Univ. For instance, the vast majority of mothers want to stay home with their children at least until they're in school (and if they're conservative, many want to homeschool so their child isn't brainwashed into changing their gender). What is she wanting to study, what job is she looking to have, and will she really be able to pay off student loans and save up money quickly enough to stay home with her children? There are associate degrees like dental hygiene that pay really well and would allow her to budget and save for the future. If she really wants a job that requires a college degree, she can look at taking gen eds at the community college (double check that they transfer correctly) so help save money, she could even stay home and work while taking those classes to cut back on loans needed.
These are all things I wish someone had told me, instead of the constant story of "you need a college degree, it could really be any degree, to get a good job or you'll be stuck in a grocery store forever, oh don't worry about the loans, it's so easy to get a good job and pay them back!"

I read a lot when I was a kid and went through a phase in 4th grade where I read biographies. Pretty interesting stuff. Ended up testing at a college level reading when I was 12 :)
The 80s were a good era for public education. Teachers weren't radical, though there were probably exceptions. Science and math were just that. We read the classics. Skin color was considered a physical trait, like having blond hair, being tall, etc. There was no trans and autism was exceedingly rare. Uni through the 90s was good too. Being pro free speech and anti-war were the norm. "Progressives" have ruined education/ society.
(Not so) fun fact about autism, a big reason it’s so prevalent now is because the categorization was changed 5-10 yrs ago to eliminate asbergers and lump it together with autism. It was a huge problem when I taught because it messed up the accuracy of IEPs since we couldn’t prepare accordingly for autistic students because there was no indication of severity.

Examples of experiences with our kids public school was a child sharing pornography with the other kids st school in 5th grade, one child threatening a line of children with a knife in the second grade, and an older elementary student, so he was a fourth or fifth grader, that was going to beat the ass of three adult men that were razzing him. Small town bay area life. A Newsome type principal came into play at some point. Kids had to wait until lunch was almost over to receive an alternative 1/2 lunch because someone stole their lunch card that they had to leave in public on a sorting block, Kids couldn't keep any of their lunch food if they bought lunch, so if they didn't eat that apple, they'd have to give it away or throw it away. (reason given was they might take it home to someone in their family, there was an actual sign) They got in trouble for talking at lunch. It was ridiculous. All of the field trips were dropped because the areas for attendance are so tightly controlled that few qualify for the bus and buses are only for drop off and pick up, not field trips, that requires extra money for gas, the driver, etc.
The day was long, the play was short, so not much work, not much play, and we are churning out people that can't read or do basic math, and the middle school looks like a prison yard for miniature alternative activists so we home schooled.

Someone who racked up 150k in school debt is going to have a very difficult time paying back that loan with only a 52k a year salary. Sure they may get some added benefits, but it will still not be enough. Assuming they work for you for most of their natural life, sure, it is possible.
But take that into consideration when that same person could have studied and earned a certification in IT and get hired making around the same or double depending on the type of job, with ZERO debt.
College is good for careers that need certain skills and training as the previous person mentioned, such as being a doctor or a lawyer, etc. But for your everyday person, a college degree is just as good as what a highschool diploma was decades ago.
English is necessary but not sufficient. Studying literature could help you learn to write better, which is a useful skill. The real problem with English majors is that oftentimes it's a dumping ground for students who are either stupid or refuse to work hard. That and the fact that that number of jobs for people who write well is far less than the number of people who can write well.

I probably do, admittedly. C's get degrees, after all, and I've done enough lawyerly things on my own as a small business owner that demonstrates it's not as difficult a profession to get into as you'd expect.
It gets back to the old tried and true 80x20 rule. Its not just one profession. I have found it true in application across the board. "C's nor A's " is not an accurate measurement of capable application. It doesnt measure common sense. I have known brilliant people who simply could not (or would not) conform to mid or higher level education protocol from start to finish line of degree.
I'm not sure what "pre-law" would involve. You certainly don't need to major in it. The primary thing you need to do to get into law school is get good grades, so it's best to major in something easy or at least something you're good at. At least that was the case when I was in school.
Medical schools do look for some background.
College used to give people access to information that they wouldn't realistically have access to without attending college. Since the advent of the internet, that just isn't true any more.

Underwater welding is a bit of a meme, and that very small world has a shit ton of competition because it's so small, and so many people fell for that.
The idea is tool using. A general engineering degree combined with some real world experience can open all the doors for a young guy - know the tools, and know the science behind them.
And yes, schools can teach you all of that, because most community colleges teach HVAC/electrician/plumbing. They have two year degrees, AA degrees, and they're worth it. They can stop after two years, or get an AA in two different worlds that overlap. That's what community colleges are for - they used to be called trade schools.
I know someone married to a guy who, when he graduated high school, decided he wanted to get into trucking. So he got a two year ticket for diesel mechanics, while going to trucking school, before getting his first real job with one of the big moving companies. He's owned - and maintained - his own trucks for over two decades now.

If you do, remind him that apprenticeships are hard(hard work is good work tho). Co-op programs help you feel out a trade if you don't have anyone close.
You don't get a whole lot of pay staring out, you're gonna drop money on tools, boots, clothes, unless he gets into a union shop. But also remind him, that trades are always in demand and once he gets his ticket he can go anywhere, and applying complementary skills to the trade will make him more valuable.
For example, a friend of mine has his gas and diesel mechanic tickets. But while he was in his apprenticeship, he heavily went into electronics, circuit design, and so-on. This was all ~20 years ago, but today he runs a shop which doesn't do any work but electronics work, it's all computerized issues for the vehicle interiors. Everything from the console control system and HUDs, to various body computer problems. His shop rents out employees to all of the major dealerships on a rotating basis usually 1-2 days per-week, and the people under him never touch an engine or transmission, or have to pull apart brakes.
Send them off to an engineering college in Eastern Europe. Seriously.

Personally, and I know a lotta faggots here don’t like it, but the military is great if have no idea. What I wanted when 18 was not what 25 year me wanted and was mature enough to realise. Minimum contract gets GI Bill and hell of a experience — which def places him above the others especially if dealing with other vets.
But GI Bill will cover any future education or trade school expenses (mostly). He also should know it’s not a game and have an end goal at that time. College wasn’t a game for me — it was something I earned though blood and sweat.
Or get IT certifications. Don't need to go to college for that, and honestly, the people who didn't go to college for IT are our best employees because they've gotten into the workforce faster and know how to talk to people.
Me...I went to college for photography and videography, and it was a waste of money. I enjoyed the experience, and I went to a comparatively conservative school, but I wouldn't do it again if I could go back in time. I'd get my A+, Network+, etc., and get on a help desk or a small repair shop to start out, and then keep looking for a better opportunity.
I refuse to give my money to a college or university that has stuff like this. Let them go broke. I will not have my kids go to a place like this.

There's only about 6 colleges EVER worth sending your kids to: Hillsdale, Liberty Baptist, Bob Jones University, Grove City College, Harding University and Colorado Christian Univ. ALL of these are extremely conservative, constitutional, supporting Judeo-Christian ethics and support Parent's belief systems rather than tear them down. I know. Sent both our kids to two of these colleges and they are fine graduates, more sure of their Judeo-Christian Conservative beliefs than ever!
Also Vanguard University in California and Randall University in Oklahoma.

If you are still looking at colleges, I go to Liberty University. We are a Christian college but also very conservative. Lots of kids coming here were home schooled, plenty of course options and activities, and elective credit courses in firearms.

Check out Hillsdale College in MI. One of the few Conservative Colleges out there. Highly rated but expensive but I can guarantee they don't put that shit in there public bathrooms.

Have you sat down with your daughter to think through her future? For instance, the vast majority of mothers want to stay home with their children at least until they're in school (and if they're conservative, many want to homeschool so their child isn't brainwashed into changing their gender). What is she wanting to study, what job is she looking to have, and will she really be able to pay off student loans and save up money quickly enough to stay home with her children? There are associate degrees like dental hygiene that pay really well and would allow her to budget and save for the future. If she really wants a job that requires a college degree, she can look at taking gen eds at the community college (double check that they transfer correctly) so help save money, she could even stay home and work while taking those classes to cut back on loans needed.
These are all things I wish someone had told me, instead of the constant story of "you need a college degree, it could really be any degree, to get a good job or you'll be stuck in a grocery store forever, oh don't worry about the loans, it's so easy to get a good job and pay them back!"
