Drunk tourists would spend money on them and it was the difference between eating or starving for the week.
Now there is much more to it, considering all the underage trafficking that goes on there. Boys and girls from small villages were sold into sex slavery and used in clubs to attract the pedophiles and gays of the world.
But fast forward to today, the main reason why there are so many ladyboys is because of old fashioned money. They simply cannot make money by just being a regular guy in Thailand.
