Honestly, any Chinese or similar restaurant that doesn't have 100% of the staff looking like they just came off the boat from whatever country the food is supposed to be from isn't worth eating at and will almost certainly be subpar.
My friend is Vietnamese, and she's not a fan of most of the Vietnamese places in the area. A few days ago we went to the one place she likes and she got worried because the new server didn't look Vietnamese, and the Asian people in the table next to us were speaking English.
I have a Vietnamese restaurant down the road from me. Best Asian restaurant in town (we have quite a few where I live), excellent food, great service, and reasonable prices. Plus its a lot healthier than Chinese take out.
I think even the FDA says the same. Sure, if you eat a pound of it at dinner, you might have trouble. If you ate a pound of table salt at dinner, you'll also probably have trouble.
Confirmed. Happened to me with Chinese Food in Nebraska and New Hampshire. I saw in the kitchen of one, and the Chef was even a Ginger.
The food was as expected - bland or awful. Both places managed to @#[email protected] up Egg Rolls, for crying out loud. They came out like some aged Hippy's version of a Vegetable Taco.
Agreed. The best Asian food comes from Asians who speak broken English!
That goes for all immigrants food. It's best when it's from someone off the boat!
I've heard great things about Mexican food in Texas. Cuban food in Miami.
Chinese food in NY, where I live, is great. Friends who moved out of here told me they miss the Chinese takeout in NY. It's very good.
But fuck NY. I'll leave within a few years, and if they ban certain rifles, I'm leaving everything behind to start a new life in a based state like Oklahoma.
oh yeah, best Mexican restaurant I ever ate at was in a small town about an hour north of Austin. I have a small Mexican restaurant in my hometown that's inside of a "Mexican Store" (the name of the place is literally Tienda Mexicana) and it's a close second for me.
Man, I tried some homemade tequila when visiting Mexico on a cruise some years back...
I grabbed my beer so I had a chaser in hand, as tequila without lime isn't really tolerable for me, but I didn't want to say no to a nice local offering me a shot after buying something from him.
I couldn't believe how smooth it was! It was smoother than my freaking Dos Equis, which makes zero sense!
It had a name... As the maker was local, and the brand was popular there, but it isn't mass produced at all.
Mexico is really an awesome place with awesome culture and people.
It's too bad the country is run by cartel gangsters, and not the government. Could eventually become a really great country. I like Mexican people and culture. It's similar to Italian culture.

I have trouble ordering at my local vietnamese place because I can't understand shit, but the food is great, cheap and a lot of it.
The way it should be!

Oh shit, time to leave

I prefer to eat at places where I am the minority in there. Food tends to be tastier.
MSG isn't as bad as they made it out to be. It was just another overexaggeration about food that they got people to panic about.
I think even the FDA says the same. Sure, if you eat a pound of it at dinner, you might have trouble. If you ate a pound of table salt at dinner, you'll also probably have trouble.
Hell you can die from drinking too much milk.
Pretty much this. If you're scared of MSG, don't eat mushrooms.

God that sounds horrible. You know the place is good if they scream the order to the cooks.
There is a checklist.
Cant understand what they are saying.
Kitchen staff is probably family.
Owners kids running around the dining room.
Restroom hall is packed with random supplies.
Waitress is the hostess.
If there isn't at minimum 4 out of 5, then most likely the place is going to suck.
Asian guy from an asian town here. You are on point.
Ha! Holy shit. This is actually true.
Can confirm.
Agreed
That’s great! The Thai restaurant up the street hits every one of those and they have awesome crispy pork noodle soup. 🌶 !!!
Their kids are running around the dining area, toys on the floor, grumpy looking gramma giving everyone the stink eye.
I loved Nebraska, but I had to stop eating both Asian food and seafood there.
Great donuts, though.
yeeeaaah I wouldn't trust seafood in Nebraska either. I know we have modern refrigeration and all but you know none of that is even possibly fresh.
That's pathetic.
I've made homemade Chinese food myself a couple of times, and mine came out very very tasty!
Especially my pot stickers!
