"Additionally, Gruelle did not create Raggedy Ann as a tribute to his daughter following her death at 13 from an infected vaccination; Hall notes Gruelle's May 28, 1915, U.S. Patent D47789 application for the design of the prototype that became the Raggedy Ann doll was already in progress around the time that Marcella fell ill, and the artist received final approval by the U.S. Patent office on September 7, 1915, the same month as Marcella's death.[5] Nonetheless, the anti-vaccination movement adopted Raggedy Ann as a symbol,[7] though Marcella died from an infected vaccination, not from the side effects of the vaccination itself.[5]"
Did not realize this. Thanks Pede. Maybe we could revive the symbol.
Found this from a 1999 article - so quite a distance from the politics of today.
"When the real-life Marcella Gruelle died, at age 13, from the ravages of an infected vaccination, her parents were, understandably devastated. Under different circumstances, this would have been a time of great rejoicing for Gruelle and his family. He was connecting with juvenile publishers, and was working on several sets of illustrated fairy stories. In November (the same month of Marcella's death) Gruelle had been granted final approval by the U.S. Patent office for his doll called "Raggedy Ann." But all was overshadowed by the death of his beloved daughter."

"The tragic vaccine induced death of Marcella propelled Johnny to become a staunch member of the anti-vaccination movement of the time. Johnny’s wife, Myrtle Gruelle, explained that Johnny had been putting the final touches on the Raggedy Ann doll just prior to Marcella’s untimely death. Ironically, the patent for the Raggedy Ann character, soon to be adopted as an iconic symbol for anti-vaccination advocates, had been granted around the same time as Marcella’s death from vaccination."
Dude's daughter died from an infected vaccine, that much is true....the rest of this is not correct. He was already writing the books and applied for the patent before his daughter fell ill.
If you read carefully that’s what it wants you to believe... he already had applied for the parent around the time She fell ill... so they don’t actually know whether it was before or after... right?
Possibly not true: Hall notes Gruelle's May 28, 1915, U.S. Patent D47789 application for the design of the prototype that became the Raggedy Ann doll was already in progress around the time that Marcella fell ill, and the artist received final approval by the U.S. Patent office on September 7, 1915, the same month as Marcella's death.[5] Nonetheless, the anti-vaccination movement adopted Raggedy Ann as a symbol,[7] though Marcella died from an infected vaccination, not from the side effects of the vaccination itself.[5]
Check out the backpedaling on Wiki:

Not anti-vax, but that sentence is beyond idiocy. It's like saying someone died from the effects of being shot, not the bullet itself.
Feels to me like that paragraph was inserted in haste and the dummy writing it didn't even think it through.
It was a dirty bullet that went through her brain, leaving behind dirty, deadly germs and a gaping chasm.
Yeah, you're probably right, given the temperatures of a firing chamber.
The vaccine didn't kill her, the vaccination did? Holy blathering double speak batman!
My mistake!
Also, how do we know for a face Gurelle was a man and didn't steal the idea from a woman, like all bigots! Wheeeee!
Wow I had no idea.
