But the Grammies were too snobbish to ever recognize that genre. They went along with the "it's too bloated and pretentious" smear (yet Opera was just fine with them).
Fuck the Grammies. They stuck up their noses and mostly ignored Classic Rock, Progressive Rock, and Jazz Fusion, then when they finally decided to include more modern music, it's garbage modern pop, and the nastiest kind of Rap.
Everyone always talks about that one, but YYZ lost Best Instrumental to a Police song that was so bad that Sting actually buried the master tape and tried to set it on fire (he also refused to play on the record). It was so bad that Stewart Copeland only played on it because he couldn't get Andy Summers to drum himself. YYZ isn't even the best Rush instrumental (La Villa Strangiato), but sweet Jesus are the Grammys fucking trash.
Rush was frozen out by the mainstream industry for decades. Certain bands who don't play label games get that, and Rush was one of them.
