I had no idea it aired last night until I heard someone talking about it on the radio this morning on the way to work. Guessing viewer turnout was a record low.
Everyone always talks about that one, but YYZ lost Best Instrumental to a Police song that was so bad that Sting actually buried the master tape and tried to set it on fire (he also refused to play on the record). It was so bad that Stewart Copeland only played on it because he couldn't get Andy Summers to drum himself. YYZ isn't even the best Rush instrumental (La Villa Strangiato), but sweet Jesus are the Grammys fucking trash.
Rush was frozen out by the mainstream industry for decades. Certain bands who don't play label games get that, and Rush was one of them. I was shocked when they got nominated by the hippies at the RnR Hall of Fame (another group of assholes who I ignore), and all of a sudden all the aging hippies are Rush fans. Suuuuuuure.
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.”
Best Metal album 1988: Jethro Tull. That's it

Alex Lifeson gave the greatest R&R HoF speech in its history.
