The way a recall works is you vote yes or no on the recall, and if you vote “yes” then there’s a list of replacement candidates to choose from. In 2003 we had 135 of them. They included Arnie, Gary Coleman, Gallagher, Larry Flint, and a porn star, plus the usual political insiders and a hodgepodge of other niche candidates.
The Democrat vote will be split probably ten different ways, since way more Democrats tend to run than Republicans. As long as they get enough signatures to get on the ballot as a candidate then they’re in.
Ric Grenell may end up running California before the end of the year.
