They don't need to go door to door to every house in America.
Instead, they'll enforce it via fear. There will be a "see something, say something" campaign where they reward people for outting others who didn't turn them in. They do this in New York and other states already.
People reported will have their door kicked down at 3AM and all their guns seized and thrown in jail and it will be all over the news. They'll have "amnesty periods" once in a while to scare people into turning them because they'll be terrified of going to jail and losing everything and many will say their family/job/life is more important than their guns.
The goal isn't to remove every single gun immediately, they just need to destroy the fundamental rights....no more shooting ranges, no more training with your guns, not being able to use your guns for self-defense, not able to talk about them......your guns will collect dust in a closet if you hide them or bury them and your children or grandchildren turn them in when you die.
Hiding and burying your guns is just as bad as turning them in.
Like I said, they aren't going to go door to door. That's never the way its worked in other countries. And they know that would spark a response. They'll do it in a way where anyone who doesn't turn them in will "hide and bury them" (which is just as bad as turning them in IMO).

That way there's a citizenry that isn't able to use them for self-defense, isn't able to train with them, and isn't able to talk about them. Eventually they'll confiscate the vast majority of them over the next few decades.
