Reminds me of the Futurama episode when Fry was being hunted for his lower horn.

That’s probably true though - the code was pretty strict so most things were left implied. No idea about whether what it says is true, whether the character was gay in the book. Personally I think movies were better when sexuality was implied rather than explicit - means you can read it how you like, and often provided more of a frisson anyway.
