Exactly. A retraction is not a front page headline.

The lie survives and the truth is but a side-note.

Very poetic! This is why I never rejoice those "retractions". I only rejoice when he liars are fired, or better, punished for libel.

Washington Post is a fake news outlet and I'm not really sure why they havent been deplatformed . independent fact checkers have found that they lied over 20,000 times just over the four years of Trump's presidency..

at the very least any Republican who deserves to be in office should be hounding Facebook to remove Washington Post as one of its fact checker

I mean....I definitely get the feeling that no one really believes all this bullshit anymore, which is the 180-degree opposite of my sense of how 2008 went.

The thing now is I'm not sure it matters. People are no longer impressed with 20-minute ads with strings of celebrities literally pledging allegiance to Barack Obama. But I think they're afraid of losing their jobs if they let on that they no longer think in perfect accordance with the brainwashing. They're afraid of being thrown out of school. They're afraid of the social consequences of saying out loud what most of the people they know are already thinking anyway.

Trump was impeached for inciting insurrection only the second time. This call had nothing to do with it.

There were dem calls for impeachment over this call, but they figured they had a better chance with the insurrection BS. Maybe they would have used this alone if they didn't have an actual peaceful protest to pearl-clutch over.

History matters, let's get it right.

but why the retraction now?

I work in a newsroom. They didn't confirm shit. Every day, they write "confirms" or "sources say" or whatever in their stories, without making any actual calls... because they know they will never be held accountable. The execs love it.

And on the off chance their fraud is found out, it won't matter because they almost never do corrections. As you said, the point of the article is to do damage. Nothing more.

They write like bitchy, petulant, catty little girls because they still think Orange Man Bad.

It is done, but it is a great example of the depth of the BS. Any time absolute proof presents itself causing a media narrative to collapse on itself, it can be useful for redpills. Having multiple MSM outlets confirm the story makes it about as reliable as the news ever gets and it still turned out to be completely manufactured.

4
Cdope45 4 points ago +5 / -1

That's because they'll issue a retraction on the last page.

162
KuzoKevin [S] 162 points ago +162 / -0

Absolute PROOF that the MSM simply makes shit up.

They got caught. Any repercussions? Of course not.

Any fact checks? Nope.

Anyone fired for lying about "sources" who "confirmed" the bull-shit? Not a chance in hell.

58
Roadpower 58 points ago +58 / -0

They got caught. Any repercussions? Of course not.

This is exactly why there must be a sea change in how the law regards companies who present themselves as professional news sources or how defamatory accusations are legally handled. Of course I realize in the current environment this is not going to happen but I'm thinking of a time when our form of government is being restructured...

And we aren't even sure if we are fully in the era of deep fake videos yet. There is no doubt that they exist and are being used, but where, when and by whom. The damage potential is astronomical and it doesn't need to be on big things, they could be on small things planting subtle ideas. Just make someone look a little uglier, it doesn't take much. And I'll tell you something, they were doing precisely that decades ago.

21
TDAF 21 points ago +21 / -0

The media say "we're journalists" the same way Twitter and Facebook say "we're a platform". They're fucking lying Democrat operatives trying to wreck America. They'll get what's coming to them.

11
orange_dit 11 points ago +11 / -0

Libel and slander laws should be enforced more often.

We need to win more cases like the Covington kid. Journalists hide behind their protections, but they cannot be above the law if they abuse their powers.

5

Going to have to happen at state level. Swamp certainly isn't going to do anything about their propaganda wing.

5
RussianAgent13 5 points ago +5 / -0

Just strengthening defamation laws will go a long way. Someone being a public figure or politician should be irrelevant. Calling someone an "ist" or a "phobe" should explicitly be defamatory. Making negative claims about group or class and then linking someone to that group in order to create a negative association should explicitly be defamatory.

1
Shroudedf8 1 point ago +1 / -0

Iirc, didn't the whole 'orange man bad' originate because some networks were filtering President Trump to look more orange? If so, that's right along the lines of subtle changes you mentioned. I'm sure there's a lot more of the subtle stuff that is hard to discern.

20
BadManOrange 20 points ago +20 / -0

Yep, the laws protecting the press' lies are insane. Stories based on anonymous sources are sloppy and presenting them as actual news rather than pure rumormongering is just misleading the public. However, they do it on purpose and no one stops them because they're all in bed together.

9
Roadpower 9 points ago +10 / -1

Speaking of anonymous sources, this is where I get into trouble with the Q people. If I'm not going to listen to MSM bullshit via their anonymous sources, why would I listen to something that is doing the same with pleasing things I might want to hear?

I precisely ignored the whole Qanon thing because it lacked source.. No source, no credibility.

3
RussianAgent13 3 points ago +3 / -0

Q did claim to rise above anonymity through the "Q proofs" which attempted to link it to the executive branch with plausible deniability. Not saying you should believe them, but whether someone followed Q hinged on their acceptance of the Q proofs, which pushed it above a typical 4chan LARP.

18

The Ukraine call, russiagate, even the WW1 memorial "suckers" thing all made up. "Yes I can confirm anything you want, I'm familiar with Trump's line of thinking" 🀑

Remember the shithole countries remark? The media went apeshit over that for weeks, including repeating it over and over on live TV. Never confirmed he said it, but who cares, that sounds like something Trump would say!

17
Halo-One 17 points ago +17 / -0

"very fine people on both sides", "all illegals are rapists and murderers", "people should inject bleach"... It never ends. Just constant lies that too many people actually believe.

1
IvIA6A 1 point ago +1 / -0

Those are a little bit different because they are actually on tape and the media just twisted it or left out context. It's not much better than just making up shit because it has the same effect to smear Trump.

0
PepeSee 0 points ago +1 / -1

BS dude, "inject bleach" wasn't even close to what he actually talked about.

1
IvIA6A 1 point ago +1 / -0

Are you reading the context of what I wrote? What's the BS dude for?

I talked about two different things, the media making stuff up and the media twisting words and context.

1
PepeSee 1 point ago +1 / -0

"Those are on tape" - he's not on tape saying these things - the media didn't "just twist it" - they totally made it up, in other words the same thing as your above comment, rather than any different (at least the 2nd two - I'm not familiar with the first one/what he actually said vs what they said he said in the first one).

Not saying they don't do that on the regular, maybe just the examples picked are "baldfaced fabrications" not "twisting words and context."

Sorry for the "BS dude" part, I should've explained this better.

3
FireannDireach 3 points ago +4 / -1

Don't forget "grab them by the pussy" - which was a casual aside of how easy it was to get women when you're famous. Not that he was actually grabbing them by the vagina, was intending to, or ever had. He was talking how a lot of women throw themselves at celebrities and powerful men.

Then we have Clinton and Biden, who literally grab women by the vagina, but hey, there, pal, watch yourself, they're innocent, doncha know.

1

Why isn't Trump suing these papers for Defamation? Obviously they haven't learned their lesson after the Nick Sandman lawsuits. Hit them in the pockets.

25
KuzoKevin [S] 25 points ago +25 / -0

He should sue them, even just to see how the press covers his lawsuit.

1
HeavyVetting 1 point ago +1 / -0

We already know. "Not content with his persecution of journalism as president, Mr. Trump is now suing us for doing our jobs reporting on how he pressured Georgia officials to find non existent evidence of voter fraud." Then they will quietly settle out of court to avoid discovery which could uncover far worse fake news.

13
Cakes4077 13 points ago +14 / -1

Since Trump is a public figure, he’d have to prove that those papers acted with actual malice, which is that the papers knew the info was false or with reckless disregard to it being false or not. Both of those things are very difficult to prove.

5
ThurstonHowell3rd 5 points ago +5 / -0

Then they should be forced to reveal the source (that obviously did know it was a lie) and let Trump sue them.

2
raytwentynine 2 points ago +2 / -0

In an ordinary case. This one looks easy to prove.

2
AmericanJawa 2 points ago +2 / -0

How is it difficult when there is blatant evidence that the source doesn't even exist?

1
PepeSee 1 point ago +1 / -0

Which is why we need military tribunals, not our regular courts. This is enemy action, not mere defamation.

6
Isolated_Patriot 6 points ago +6 / -0

Because the press has blanket immunity when defaming or slandering public figures. Technically we all do, I think.

9
RocksCanOnlyWait 9 points ago +9 / -0

Pretty sure they don't have immunity. It's just the bar is so high to win a case that no one ever tries.

You basically have to proven that the media knew at the time that they were reporting false information, but did it anyway specifically to harm a person or group. And because political harm isn't objectively quantifiable, the courts often drop the case as there is no remedy that they can provide.

2
Isolated_Patriot 2 points ago +2 / -0

Immunity is maybe too strong of a word, but it's thanks to "precedence" that the bar is so high. "No Standing," etc.

5
Dckman 5 points ago +5 / -0

The courts would throw it out. MOOT

4
epaminondas 4 points ago +4 / -0

The problem is the Sullivan vs ny times case which roughly stated that the media has wide latitude to lie at will, as long as it wasn't intentionally malicious. Even if the legacy media attacks a public figure, and is found wrong as usual, they just need to say "we didn't know". The fix to this is to get congress to pass some sort of law limiting the power of the press to openly lie for financial gain. Alternatively, we all need to call the press' lies and slander to our friends and family.

1
Pwoody11 1 point ago +1 / -0

Forgot about that. What defines a public figure? I'm certain Trump would fall into that category, but the reason I ask is I believe James O'Keefe is suing the New York Times.

1
AmericanJawa 1 point ago +1 / -0

The fix to this is to get congress to pass some sort of law limiting the power of the press to openly lie for financial gain.

Going to have to be state congresses if you're going to expect that to happen in this environment.

They do it because they keep surviving criminal behavior. If you stay alive after stealing elections, of course you will become arrogant and repeat it.

The Media is the propaganda arm of the Deep State. They collude like this all the time.

The most brazen is when they all clamored to declare Biden the winner.

11
idea 11 points ago +11 / -0

And Obama made it 100% legal.

4
Chickenbaconpoutine 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'll never understand why this wasn't fixed in the past 4 years..

Even Trump was surprised by the absolute depravity in place. Next time he will go scorched Earth on these fools.

Trump needs to raze the org chart of every Federal agency five levels deep and have replacements ready to go.

2
idea 2 points ago +3 / -1

There are a lot of things I expected, and lots of other things trump promised, and very few of them actually happened.

It was simultaneously the best presidential term in the history of the US, and also the most disappointing.

This is so telling -

"...people thronged cities across the U.S. to celebrate the democratic process that resulted in Trump’s ouster."

Not "Biden's victory", but "Trump's ouster".

That sums up the MSM these days.

(Disclaimer - the above post should not be interpreted as an acknowledgement that Trump lost a free and fair election. Any and all "Fuck the system", "Why even bother fucking voting", and "Fuck Dominion" comments are presumed without posting. Thank you in advance for not distracting from the subject matter of this thread, even though you think we're retards for not explicitly blaming everything on a "stolen fucking election".)

They are on the Federal payroll.

It's called Laundering. It's all news and journalism is today. One "anonymous" source to write the article. The rest of the "journalists" use this first article as a source and can never be wrong after that because they are simply siting or using the article as a source. Writing anything about that article is technically true even if the article is made up BS.

This is also what is happening in our universities. One person writes for a "peer reviewed" journal with bullshit data and every book written that year quotes the journal and teaches the next group of people the bullshit. Eventually you have people who learned from the book, writing the new books for the next generation to learn from. 10 years ago I had one teacher who had real life experience who would pick and choose what was valuable from the books he taught. The rest of the teachers were so far removed from the real world they couldn't explain or give examples that were not in the book. Today, I would bet there are no teachers left with real world experience in the field they teach.

Ayur 6 points ago +6 / -0

Obama’s 2012 NDAA allowed for media to function as propaganda outlets. That’s why this is being allowed to happen so frequently with no accountability whatsoever. Journalism is dead.

1
Chickenbaconpoutine 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'll never understand why this wasn't removed on day 1 in 2017.

5
Pats5x 5 points ago +5 / -0

this is about the 10th time the media has completely made something up to hurt Trump, parotted it for several days or weeks, only to have it proven completely false. damage done. mission accomplished.

5
Jackpotsevens 5 points ago +5 / -0

10th? You forgot a few zeros!

5
cosmos411 5 points ago +5 / -0

Now go back and look at everything else they wrote about President Trump over the past 4+ years.

p.s. I'm fully aware the smooth-brains out there wouldn't care about the truth. They're media induced TDS has fully metastasized.

the media is the enemy and it is incumbent on we the people to dispense justice as our "justice system" is now corrupt and will allow the left any criminality without consequence.

I LMFAO at anyone still buying anything the media says. They are not journalists. They are agenda driven hacks and propagandists. Even if they end up telling the truth once in a while, it's usually for some other reason than wanting to be truthful to the public.

3
Bogey 3 points ago +3 / -0

Let me spell it out for the people who haven't caught on yet.

One person creates a lie. They then tell several people. Those several people then confirm it with each other. Thus a lie is incepted as a fact in their minds.

Why? Because literally the dumbest people in America are becoming journalists. They eschewed all their lives basic critical thinking skills. They cheated their way through higher education. They realized access was what minted a journalist so they perverted themselves to cultivate access. Since they're so monumentally dense they thought they were cultivating their sources when their sources were cultivating them as useful idiots.

Seriously, 90% of people in a newsroom will be the most egotistical but dumbest tperson you'll ever meet. It's incredibly obvious with idiots like Don Lemon bit most fly under the radar.

3
LtPatterson 3 points ago +3 / -0

Oh well. Nothing to be done about it except bitch online.

This applies to all of my comments now.

3
MrBlack 3 points ago +3 / -0

Can't remember where I saw it, but it was leaked group chats from a bunch of senior editors or something of major news networks, showing that they indeed plan the narrative amongst each other. This was years and years back and I didn't think to archive out save it.

Little bitty newspapers, such as the weeklies in small towns, have a Code of Ethics that forbids them from publishing anonymous accusations of misconduct. That is, they are required to say who is pushing the accusation.

Isn't it time our national news raised its level of ethics to that of a weekly, local newspaper?

2
Forgotmypass666 2 points ago +2 / -0

I think it's more likely that Washington post ran the story, and all those other networks ran it again having done no leg work and just lieing about independently confirming it.

2

Anonymous sources that give false info (if there was a source at all) by law should be doxed. No if and or buts about it.

the media has less credibility than 4chan of all places. /pol/ jokes and fucks around constantly but there is still an element of truth to the shitposting while the media just publishes flat-out lies and pushes it as the truth.

Thier ratings are dropping so they are getting more and more desperate. Just keep tuning them out and hopefully capitalism will do its thing. What am I thinking, the dems would probably just bail them out at our expense. Too big to fail...

Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men on the planet, owns the Washington Post.

If the dems even suggested helping WaPo, AOC would lose her shit.
