we need to once and for all find a way to get the notion of face masks out of the minds of the public. This idea that facemasks are any protection at all needs to end. The problem is when we give people the choice to wear theirs, they still try to force you to follow their lead and wear one too, resorting to public shaming and coercion tactics, peer pressure and going out of their way to make your life miserable and even ostracize you for not being one of the "Kovid Kool Kids".

If we could just trust that people would be rational about it and keep to themselves, wear masks if they wanted to but stop demanding others do so, then fine, but if we can't then I'd be more in favor of outright banning them for public use as a "disease control measure". Take some power away from irrational people who want to control others.
