So I had to take an IQ test recently. Was being told that there is a correlation between politics and IQ. Specifically I was told that higher IQ is associated with Leftism.
That smells like woke bullshit.
Got my score, and had a little moment of smug delight because my score was surprisingly high. And it got me thinking:
I bet if everyone on this site took an IQ test and we averaged the scores, we would find that Patriots are just fucking smarter. I also bet that if you took a similar cross section of liberals and did the same, they would be significantly below average.
I just cannot believe that “let’s smash that storefront and take shit, they have insurance” and “wealth redistribution is sustainable” can possible make sense to a high functioning mind.

Exactly. To me, booksmart is when you can remember a fact but have no real idea on how to apply it.
Street smart is knowing how to get something done. And how not to walk into immediate failure. That is actually more similar to how an IQ test works.
IQ is specifically measuring problem solving, logical reasoning, and extrapolation of an outcome from incomplete information. I guess we need to think about what is consider “smart”. If parroting facts is “smart” then I’m an idiot. If reasoning out what potential outcomes come from a set of starting conditions and known patterns then I am quite smart.
My assumption is that popular culture has come to value parrots more than thinkers. And that conservatives tend to have a longer view and therefore rely more on reasoning than a lefty to determine what to advocate for.
