36 year old Atheist here. For me, the problem with Religions is that they were created in a time when people knew far less about everything than we do now, and by people who knew far less than we do. They are attempts at making sense of reality sans good data. I'm not militant however ( unless it comes to Islam, which should really be destroyed) and how now issue with the Christian faith.
So you aren't Atheist, you are Ignostic, welcome aboard. Religions were created by idiots with no understanding of the universe or basic hygiene, and we are going to follow and believe their description of "God"? They couldn't conceptualize fusion reactions and gravity, but sure, we'll just keep following their prehistoric concept of the creator of all existence.
The problem isn't a lack of religion in society, it's a lack of truth.
There it is tho... "God" the creator doesn't necessarily have to be a deity, that's prescribing to preexisting religious concepts. Something created everything, if that something was a massive explosion from one dimension into another, well, God is an inter-dimensional explosion. Man is too dumb, and greedy, to fully conceptualize the "creator" of all existence.
It's one thing to believe in a creator God, and another thing entirely to say one knows what it wants one to do, say, and think, and how to behave. That is...quite a leap.

Well, I'm an Atheist in the sense that I don't subscribe to the doctrines of any deity. I suppose I would be technically agnostic.
