I will NEVER understand this mentality from RINOs. Democrats hate everyone that isn't a Democrat, and will only tolerate the other side as long as they're politically or financially useful in some way. As soon as they're done with you they will toss you aside like everyone else. Why burn your bridges for such fleeting and flaky support? Democrats won't support you because you're a Republican, and Republicans won't support you either because you sided with Democrats - it makes zero sense to me.
I'm always a little confused by it as well. I have a few working theories.
Democrats in disguise: People who secretly harbor very left leaning politics and view the Republican party as easy to infiltrate and undermine.
Political Panic Button: Some Republicans screw up and realize they've pissed off their base, so rather than try to be better they decide not to admit fault and instead lean into it and hope the Dems will pick up the slack and defend them. This seems like the most likely case with Adam here. He fell on the wrong side of one too many issues and, rather than own up to being a cunty person, he saw that his political fortunes are best secured by becoming one of the Democrat's token "Good Republicans"
Megalomania: These are your Romney, Liz Cheney, McCain types. "Conservative" only when you put the "Neo" prefix up front. They are big government Republicans who love to fund the military industrial complex but give no support for the actual bedrock conservative issues like constitutional rights, and praise "centrism" and "political compromise"as a virtue in it's own right. When they see that the Republican party is actually not about their Neocon bullshit, the put themselves forward as the moral arbiters of a party that has lost its way. They style themselves as the moral paragon, the father, the bishop, the professor who sees his unruly flock go astray but who stands ready for the day that they relent and come back to the fold under their holier-than-thou leadership. In truth, these people are full of shit and have no moral compass, and the only political compromise they ever reach involves selling out their own voters. Democrats love these types the most.
It's what their financial backers want. They don't mind leaving office if they can just become a lobbyist and make more money and still go to the same cocktail parties.
Many examples of this. Most recent one that comes to mind is Jeff Flake.
Actually this explains why he started off decent but recently dove RINO.
Yeah he felt the democrats would support and protect him like they do all the other creatures.

All of that exists, but it's actually much simpler than that.
Follow the money.
They can be all three

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.
He’s just a complete power hungry douche.
It’s not a logic thing it’s just whatever douche behavior works best.
Hell, they will even throw their own under the bus when they outlived their usefulness. Case in point: Andrew Cuomo.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, enough said,.
More likely he was always a piece of shit but hid it.
I don't recall him being such an insufferable douche bag prior to 2020, but he was always a war-monger.
Yeah, like all the other ones, he was blackmailed. The FBI, NSA, etc. are weapons used by the left to get what they want.
