Its funny how they claim to be unable to afford basic necessities, but then you see a brand new car they leased for 22k with premium insurance policy.

Had to go to TMobile for a hotspot device while waiting on internet to get set up. Store was full of customers buying latest iPhone when they weren't even done paying off the last generation iphone.... I run my phones into the ground.

Another disturbing thing I've noticed in my area, EVERYTHING is rent to own. They pay for everything 3-4 times in payments instead of just once...

Yup. And it's always shitty people who bring hell to the neighborhood when renting these houses. At least here.

People aren't joking when they quote the "you will own nothing, and you will be happy" line.

It's incredible how many people don't realize just how much of their livelyhood is tied up in things that they pay a monthly bill for. Especially online.

People who use things like Office 365, or any "cloud based" service are ingraining their lives into a system that can be turned off the moment someone decides that the user didn't vote for the right politician.

I remember reading back back around 2010, many articles saying that the future of society is subscription based. I always thought that insane, bc anyone who has ever had a subscription has probably been somehow screwed by it.

But now I realize..... THIS is what they meant...... people living their daily lives with no forward thought to the future, at all. It’s very frightening. Either you become a part of the borg, or you are cut off from society.

I think they are severely underestimating the number of people who are perfectly okay with being cut off from society

Edit: and see it as a good thing

I buy a nice-ish used phone, outright, and use it until it's broken. Not a little cracked, but unusably ruined.

I can't stand spending 4x the money in monthly installments for the same quality product. It's another poverty-trap.

I still have my shitty phone and I do my own repairs on it so I dont have to buy a whole new phone if the screen breaks.

I rented an apartment some 15 years ago or so. Downstairs neighbor was a big fan of rent to own.

Once every couple of months the music levels would get insane for a few weeks, then stop for a good, long while.

I'll leave it up to the reader to figure out why that was happening.

That story I read about woman squatting on her landlord and she was living in her car because of how much money it was costing her. Meanwhile her tenant bought herself a new car. And basically racked up +15k of back rent.

No worries, that'll get squashed and wiped clear. Landlord can obviously afford to eat it, they're a landlord for goodness sake.

You think landlords are rich? She was a 30 y/o woman being ripped off by a 25 year old woman. The mortgage, insurance, and taxes/fees associated with business cost it money. Where do you think that money comes from ? The tenant paying rent.

Not too quick on the uptake today, are we.
