Buddha is highly respected for his wisdom and serenity. It borders on idolatry and deification, but doesn't quite cross the line.
Even if Buddha may not be considered a god, he is worshiped, he is prayed to, and he has graven images that people bow down before. It’s no better than praying to the image of a saint, or common ancestor worship.
