the rich want slaves. that's never changed.

'they're not slaves we pay them money'

I'd be interested to see what the cost of room and board for an American slave was, and if it comes out to more than what 'immigrants' are paid for their work.

yes I am completely leaving out the obvious difference that they're not owned, but I'd still like to see.

The simple truth is that an immigrant who comes here on a work visa is not free to change jobs. Basically, slaves.

And employers take advantage of it. In some of the entry level H1B positions, they’ll sometimes have immigrants (along with their American counterparts) work 70 hours a week. The visa holders are a captive audience because their immigration status is contingent on holding that job. Additionally, the immigrants won’t complain about abusive behavior at work because corporate will find some excuse to fire them if they act up.

I worked with guys on work visas(not with my company just on the same project). The shit they have no choice but put up with is unreal. They would never try to pull that stuff on an American who could tell them to pack sand. For their sake and ours we gotta knock that shit off

That immigrant still can simply leave. Not slaves.

Correct. It's a golden chain; but still a chain nonetheless - and one that undercuts the value of labor in the country for native citizens.

It should also be noted, a lot of times they are saddled with a bunch of (exaggerated) debts for their relocation here that they are still obligated to pay, even if they leave.

This gets overlooked a lot. Basically a good argument on why the minimum wage shouldn't be higher, but shouldn't exist at all. People aren't forced to low paying jobs, they accept them.

So please, stop tipping, in every aspect of daily life. It's not helping workers, its helping their boss.

John Miano from the center for immigration studies calls H-1B workers "bonded labor". It's not the same as indentured servitude, but would you, as an Indian, want to go back to your village with no flushed toilets? I sure wouldn't want to!

I figured something like that, didnt know the details, thank you

I should clarify. It's possible, but it's such a bureaucratic nightmare, it's effectively impossible.

Plus, H1B has no path to citizenship if the employing company doesn't initiate it.

Slavery with extra steps.

Right now, it's not really about slavery.

They're targeting the middle-class white people because they're the most likely to resist their big movements in the future.

By targeting and weakening the white middle-class, they're setting themselves up to wipe up out by the time they have fully sentient AI that is capable of self-learning.

Once the elites have AI to replace us, they will genocide us by the billion. There will be no more use for PEOPLE at all. The 1% will be kept alive to maintain the systems in place that provide for them, but other than that, all of the industry jobs will be replaced by automation and super intelligent AI. Resources will basically be infinite, the elites will never have to worry about crime, or anything else, and will be able to enjoy the natural wonders of the world while living in castles.

Ownership is really just a technicality

Many of the farm workers live onsite in worse housing in some cases than what they left. Landowners/farmers should not be able to exploit slave labor so they can enrich themselves. All so we can save .25/lb for apples. It's a fucking joke that has been running for far too long with little to no pushback. If they are too ignorant to be able to profit with 1000's of acres it's needs to go to different people with different ideas on how to turn a profit on said acreage
