Its actually NOT a smart move. If you're a politician, you need to constantly stay in touch with your base if you don't want to lose influence.
He's the boogeyman to the Left. If he spoke right now, the media would be all over him. He would suck the air out of the room for China Joe. No, he's better being quiet right now and letting the Dems implode with the occasional jab of "I did it better," to remind the NPCs that things were better under him.
The media will be all over him regardless of when he speaks.
That's what we think because we're just coming out of Trump's presidency. However, if he spends more time out of the spotlight, he'll lose his commanding presence as the center of focus, much to the detriment of his future campaigns. If you're a TV personality (which most politicians are), you should always keep the spotlight onto you, unless you're retiring.
