The only problems I have with Catholicism is their belief that Mary is one to pray to, yet she died just as all humans do, save for Elijah and Enoch, and they believe i cannot converse with the Almighty Father Himself through Jesus Christ, and must go through a mediator that is as imperfect as i. Other than that, as far as I inderstand, is a.o.k. (above other knowledge).
We dont pray to Mary. "Prayers to (insert saint)" is just a shortened way to mean "asking for the intercession to pray with us". Its like spiritual networking. We can and do communicate with the Father through his begotten Son. The priest doesnt forgive sins but rather gives absolution.
I look it like God creates laws. Whether natural( gravity, thermodynamics, speed of light etc) or spiritual ( 10 commandments). When the spiritual laws are broken we open ourselves to spiritual attacks because we are no longer under the protection. Absolution returns us to the protection. A famous exorcists said confession is the strongest exorcism.
On Mary. Catholics believe that Mary is Gods most perfect creation more so than the Angels. She is the Queen of heaven. Its a recent idea that the King's wife is the queen. In ancient times it was the King's mother. Taking the Trinity into consideration, Jesus is God's Son and God along with the Holy Spirit. There is distinction but no separation. So she is the Mother of God. She is the only human after Eden born without original sin, Immaculate Conception. Jesus couldn't be in a womb tainted with it. A woman played a major role in the fall of man. A woman will play a major role in the redemption. She is the new Eve.
That kind of clears it up, however Christ himself said if you must pray, pray in secret and like this, "our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,...." to the Father Himself, and secretly so that we might not be seen as hypocrites as those that boast of their prayers in public. That, praying to anyone but the Father, is where Catholicism loses me. Not judging, as you have explained it better than any I have asked thus far, just giving my view. Thank you for the explanatory response and not derision.
